Family Support Services

Advocates’ Family Support Services (FSS) is a coordinated system of ongoing supports, services, resources, and financial assistance, which are designed to facilitate the care of the individual and enhance the quality of life of a child or adult with an intellectual/developmental disability and his or her family.  Family Training, Service Access, and Family Reimbursement are included in FSS.

Training events are offered throughout the year, to aid individuals and families in making the most informed decisions. We understand the importance of ensuring that the people we support have the most accurate and up to date information. Therefore, we offer an array of training events and informational sessions based on our families’ expressed interests. Our agency truly believes individuals not only have the right to live the lives they choose but also to the support that they need to succeed in those choices. We want to ensure that the individuals and families we serve have the resources they need to reach their goals. That starts with the first phone call. Whether that means navigating your family’s journey through OPWDD eligibility or simply finding the right supports and services, we will be there each step of the way. To start such discussions, please contact Niki Dreis (Family Liaison) at (315) 469-9931.

The Family Reimbursement program is designed to provide some financial relief to families who are caring for a child with an intellectual or developmental disability. Not only does Family Reimbursement offer respite reimbursement to parents/guardians but we also provide funding for other Goods and Services such as therapeutic recreational activities, adaptive lessons and classes, home modifications, specialized adaptive equipment, and emergency services.
